The Sonoita-Elgin Fire District (SEFD) is governed by a five-person non-partisan board elected by registered voters of the District. Board members are elected for alternating four-year terms. As a result, there are at least two members elected every two years.
November 2016 brought SEFD five new Board members to our governing Board:
Sonoita-Elgin Fire is considered a special district of the State and complies with all applicable areas of the Arizona Revised Statutes. For example; Sonoita-Elgin Fire holds a public meeting on the fourth Monday of every month at the Sonoita Fire House. This meeting is mandated by the state through the Open Meeting Law. We encourage residents to attend these monthly meetings.
In accordance with state law, notice for all special district public meetings, along with agendas must be posted at least 24-hours in advance of the meeting. Public notices for the Sonoita-Elgin Fire District (SEFD) are posted at (1) the Sonoita Post Office at 3166 Hwy 82 Suite 1, (2) the Fire House at 3173 Hwy 83, as well as on (3) the announcements board in the lobby of Sonoita Justice Court , located at 3147 Hwy 83, Suite 103. The Post Office in Sonoita is our Legal Posting Site.
Public meeting notices will be posted on our website at sefd911.org as time permits. Please be advised that only the Sonoita-Elgin Fire House and the Sonoita Post Office bulletin boards may be relied on for official postings under the Arizona Open Meeting Law. A technological problem or failure that either prevents the posting of public notices on a website or that temporarily or permanently prevents the use of all or part of the website does not preclude the holding of the meeting for which the notice was posted, if the public body complies with all other public notice requirements
